BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy
Graduated 2018
 |
My Name is Megan Robson, and I am a BNU Alumni. I studied at BNU from 2015-2018 on the BSc Sports Therapy programme, the very first cohort of the programme at BNU. Since graduating from BNU in 2018 I have had a number of roles within Sports Therapy, I have worked within clinic settings within football and rugby as well as running my own business. But the majority of my work since graduating has been here at BNU. I joined the Teaching team for the BSc Sports Therapy programme in 2018 as an associate lecturer and have since worked my way up from part time to a full time lecturer.

What are your memories of being a student at BNU?
I have very fond memories of being a student at BNU, I remember long days of teaching as well as dedicates and passionate staff that seemed to make a 3-hour practical session fly by.
What advice could you give to recent graduates who want to get ahead?
Don’t be afraid to be the best. Take every opportunity that is presented to you. You never know where it might lead you. Connections will get you far in the world of Sports Therapy.
How did your degree at BNU impact on your career?
The degree at BNU is my career. Since graduating from BNU I have been a Sports Therapist. Working Clinically and within Sport. Further from that in my role as a lecturer at BNU without my degree in Sports Therapy I wouldn’t be able to teach in Sports Therapy.
Why did you join the course?
I wanted to help other people. I came to BNU to look at what “Sports Therapy” was as a course not necessarily with the intention of coming here and fell in love with the place. I knew from that open day that this is where I wanted to study.
What aspects of your studies did you enjoy the most and why?
The practical aspects of my course. The ability to learn practically in the classroom during the day and then practice them on real life patients on placement in the evening.
Which parts of your student experience were the best preparation for your job?
Placements. The staff worked tirelessly to get us a variety of placement opportunities. From Sports to clinics and events. There were so many opportunities for us to put our learning into practice in a safe environment.
What are your major careers milestones since completing your studies?
Working for England College Football Association Representative side and joining them in Italy for their tour.
Completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice to be able to progress in my Academic career into a lecturer.
What are your future ambitions?
Continue to progress at BNU in Academia. I am currently undertaking research as a part of a PhD so completion of those studies would definitely be a part of my future ambitions.
What advice would you give to a student considering the course or looking to get into a career in your sector?
Work hard and you will achieve all you wish to achieve. The sacrifice of the long days and worked weekends will all be worth it in the end. The reward for getting a player back on a pitch or removing someone’s pain through your treatments cannot be matched. This career is so rewarding.
See every interaction as an opportunity. You never know where a conversation with a stranger might get you. Networking is so important.
