A new exhibition showcasing the work of academics and creative practitioners from Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) opens to the public this week.
Convergence, running from 26 June to 4 September, brings together the work of 11 contributors from BNU's Centre for Enrichment in Culture and Identity (CECI) and College of Creative Technology and Engineering (CATE). The exhibition is hosted in the upstairs gallery space at the Brunel Engine Shed in High Wycombe.
Exploring the intersections of teaching, research and creative practice, Convergence highlights how ideas evolve through collaboration, experimentation and shared learning. The exhibition offers visitors a unique insight into the creative processes that shape academic work and the impact of collaboration between staff and students.
Curated by Fiona Minors, Convergence was designed as a space where ideas from different disciplines can meet, connect and inspire new conversations.
Fiona said: “As curator of the Convergence exhibition, the idea was to offer a space for cross-disciplinary teaching, practice and research ideas to creatively collide. It has been a wonderful experience and privilege to curate the work of my peers, and I hope visitors enjoy exploring the exhibition.”
Reflecting on her own creative practice, Fiona added: “My teaching is fundamentally based on continuous interactions and connections. Working with students and academic peers whose influence I value, I have come to realise my practice is a process of assemblage. Ideas are collected, stored and reused. I often return to those liminal abstract spaces in teaching, thinking and doing where ideas, actions, cultural encounters and hybrid identities evolve into something new.”
The exhibition features a range of creative responses and reflections from colleagues whose teaching and research continue to shape the student experience.
